So after looking through many website's this was my end result of the hospital bag pack list. I had divided it into 3 different bags (Labour Bag, Baby Bag and After Labour Bag), funny thing was when I finished packing I put up a picture on snapchat that I was done and dusted and so many replied with that I had packed too much but to be fair I used almost all of it and needed Glenn to bring in more.
So for my Labour Bag, I had the following packed:
For Me:
Light dressing gown
Slippers
2* Nightdress (one for during, one clean one to change into afterwards)
Socks (everyone said your feet get cold afterwards)
Lavender lotion - I had a lotion that was very calming that I loved (Did't use)
Lip Balm - recommended but didn't use
Snacks and drinks, oh god an absolute must. I packed cereal bars and they saved me towards the end for energy
Ipad - never used
Bobbins
Straws - again never used but was recommended for sips of water
Change for parking
Deodrant
Hairbrush
Toiletries - this didn't need to be packed in the labour bag but take out your tooth brush and tooth paste
Maternity Sanitary towels - pack everywhere, I sent Glenn out twice to get more because I didn't bring enough and they are quite bulky
Large - dark coloured towel
Nursing Bra
Phone Chargers
Cooling Spray or water in a spray bottle
Wetwipes
Earphones - didn't use
Eyemask - didn't use
Camera in case phones die and cant charge them
For Glenn:
Change of clothes
Deodrant
Toothbrush
Phone Charger
For the Baby:
First outfit (Babygro, vest, cardigan, hat and mitts)
Blanket - Cellular
Nappies
Then for my Baby Bag, I packed:
(I ended up having to send Glenn into Penney's for me to get tiny baby clothes because I was told he would be a big baby and ended up being 6lb 15oz so was tiny)
Nappies *24
Baby blankets 2* Cellular and 1*Heavy - Didn't need Heavy one
Going home outfit for baby
Baby bath towel
Baby nail clippers - babies are born with sharp nails fyi
Cotton wool
Baby wipes
Nappy cream
Nappy bags
6 long sleeve babygros (newborn & up to 1m )
6 vests (newborn & up to 1m)
Bibs
2 Cardigans
Baby sponge
2 pairs of scratch mitts
2 hats
Baby socks
Muslin clothes
If I end up doing this again, I would also pack soothers because I was given one by the NICU and the hospital wouldn't even rinse it with hot water for me when he spat it out) and saline because he had gunky eyes.
They go through alot of clothes so I had a laundry bag and another bag at home with fresh baby clothes to rotate.
And then for the After-Labour Bag:
Fresh Nightgown
Nursing Bra's
Maternity Knickers (I had the disposable that I never used and the Bridget Jone's ones from Penney's, which I did use. Tip - Buy black for spills/accidents and don't forget if you wear black underwear you should probably wear dark pj's)
Breast Pads
Maternity Pads *2 Packs - I had packed 2-3 packs and still ended up sending Glenn out for 2 more packs
Going home outfit for Mammy - be realistic, stick with leggings and baggy's, so they are loose, comfortable and you will still have a slight bump afterwards.
Nipple cream
Flip flops
Makeup bag - Now I saw other women putting makeup on every morning, not me, f*@$ that. I will leave it at home next time. Least of my concerns ha
Witch Hazel - didn't need as its recommended for tears and I was quite fortunate that I didn't have any
Pajamas - I under estimated how many pairs of PJ's I would need, pack extra
Travel hairdryer - again I didn't need, I waited until I got home for my shower (not a fan of showering in shared spaces)
Mirror - didn't need, there is one in the bathrooms
Dry Shampoo - tied me over until I got home
Look in some people's eye's I over-packed, in others I didn't pack enough. If I was to go in again I would have the above again minus the things I noted I didn't need.
Plus I would have had a bag at home ready for Glenn with spares like PJ's, Maternity pad's, bigger/smaller size clothes for the baby etc to save him the multiple trips to Penney's that he was sent on. It could have been because I was there a day longer than planned but we need to be prepared for the madness. If I was brought for a section I would have been there longer and poor Glenn would have had a melt down packing for an extra 3 days or so for us all.
If you feel I missed something please reach out and tell me as I hope that someday someone's googling a packing list comes across this and finds it helpful. 🙂 Happy packing and best of luck!!
